The first years of my childhood were spent on a small acreage in North-Central Iowa (a state located in the North-Central United States). On this farm, my parents raised sheep, chickens, hogs, and corn. We had several dogs and occasionally horses. Although I was surrounded by animals, I was much too young to interact with them at this age. Consequently, my early years were enriched with the luxury of behavioral observation. We moved to town, life went on, and I graduated from Clear Lake High School in 2005. I was very active in athletics (American Football, Baseball, Wrestling, and Track & Field, Taekwondo), academics (National Honor Society, Math Olympiads, Odyssey of the Mind, Mock Trial, Model United Nations, Speech Contest), music (Vocal, Piano, Trombone), and society (Boy Scouts of America, religious youth group). I am ever-grateful to my parents and siblings for the path they set me on.
Since the summer of 2008, I have been regularly playing the guitar. I started on my mother's old squire and purchased a Takamine electric/acoustic a year later. With the help of youtube videos, I have mainly taught myself how to play. As a gift to myself for passing my comprehensive exams in the autumn of 2011, I purchased a Kala travel tenor ukulele. It is a very light instrument, but it is not at all a toy -- a common misconception of ukuleles. I love to play it while roaming around my apartment.
I enjoy disc golfing.
